## [Thunapa Wiracocha, Thonapa Wiracocha, Tunapa, Thunapa Wiracochan](https://incaglossary.com/t-prime/thunapa-wiracocha.md)

(n) One of the many
names of [Wiracocha](https://incaglossary.com/w/wiracocha.md), but may be more
ancient. Thunapa was a pre-Incan storm god, upon whom the [Incas](https://incaglossary.com/i/inca.md) modelled their own storm god, [Illapa](https://incaglossary.com/i/illapa.md).  [MAN] A
figure of Callao legend, he became identified with Wiracocha. Like
Wiracocha, he arrived mysteriously from the south on the banks of [Lake Titicaca](https://incaglossary.com/l/laketiticaca.md) at a time when the sun
had just returned after a long absence. He had magical powers to make
water flow from stone and the imprint of his feet could be seen even in
hard rock. As he made his way north through the Andean foothills, he
inspired universal veneration and acquired the name of [Ticci](https://incaglossary.com/t/tiqsi.md) Wiracocha. [IAWS] The name
of a Light Being from Lake Titicaca. His face is carved in the side of
the mountain at Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. [IGMP] Legendary
god who walked among men and founded the vast majority of the existing
temples of Peru; the legends leave unclear whether this figure *is*
Wiraqocha, but it appears more likely that he is the *son* or
spawn of Wiraqocha, or is an entirely independent figure, yet Thunupa
is said to have created the [Ruta de Wiraqocha](https://incaglossary.com/r/roadofwiracocha.md), the legendary pilgrimage path that cuts through Peru.
Thunupa is typically described as a white-skinned man with a long beard
and features similar to those of Quetzalcoatl of the Maya and Jesus
Christ; he was, in the Andes, the [Pacha Yachachiq](https://incaglossary.com/p/pacha-yachachiq.md) — the world teacher. [ANON1]

## [thuqay, tuqay, toqay, thoqay](https://incaglossary.com/t-prime/thuqay.md)

(v) To spit. [RS]
